Your group may work together to come up with the answers. But each of you will be given a grade based on your blog entry. It's OK if they are the same IF they're really good. 

1. Which of the 8 rules of Media Literacy is illustrated in the Beauty and Body Image article? Why and how?
2. The article on advertising to children is a great example of media constructing reality (#2 rule of Media Literacy). Can you think of an example of media constructed reality aimed at teens? Tell me what it is and how it constructs reality.
3. The commercial implications (#4) of media literacy are illustrated in The Economics of Ethnicity link. Do you think most media does a good job of showing what your real life is like? The number of minority people you see daily, the kinds of problems you have in real life, the way those problems get solved - are these things that you see in TV shows, movies and advertising?

Hopefully, answering these questions will help you understand what media literacy is and guide you in making your presentation. You will be graded on evidence that you read and discussed the articles and the thoroughness of your answer. It's important that you get this job done today. Media Arts

This is a commercial I made with some help of my teammates John and Gordon. The experience was not so good I did all the work and I am proud I completed this on time while I was sick. It did not come out like I wanted to but I did my best. This was the first time I did this by myself.

Commercial Assignment

    One commercial I really liked and could not forget is the Piggy Gieco commercial it is powerful although the piggy can be annoying I think I can relate to it my father says that I am like the pig who is so annoying all I do is talk and can not stop. It souds like weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeweeeeeeeeeeeeeee! So whenever I am in a car I think of that commercial.

PSA Evaluation

I did my PSA with  Luz and Jessie. It was a lot of work trying to write the script, filming it and getting everything perfect. We had a lot of problems and difficulties but we did it. The topic we chose was hard about donating some of your money to charities. Our motto is Youth Empowerment: Making our Values Matter  I really like it and never in my life thought that I would be doing one. The San Francisco Film Societies'  brought Kirthi, Ryan, Masa they were very helpful and taught us new stuff. I really appreciate their help. Also, teaching us how to do a PSA and all the camera shots. I hope that one day they will come back and teach us new stuff. I hope you like our PSA and it motivates you.

PSA Assignment

   For my PSA am working with Luz and Jessie. Our title is Give a Dollar, save a Life. It is about that we always spend money on getting the latest thing and trend. So we are going to present and try to motivate people to save at least two dollars and to show that at the end of the year you will have a lot of money. When you are going to buy something and its not a scarifice. With that you can donate the money to the charity of your choice and help make a difference in some ones life. Our audience are kids around our age that can make a difference in the world (12-17). The props that we need will be a itouch, Converse, and skinny jeans. Jessie will be the camera person, will be taking pictures, and video tapping everything to. I will be working with the sound and finding the music that best goes with it. Luz will be editting the movie. I hope that this PSA will come out great and have a lot of fun doing it.

This is a picture that our Media Arts teacher made us do because we are learning about the art of his tesallations. This is one of the interpretations I made of his famous art piece "Relativity." It was really hard to make it because we had to make it have 3 different perpectives. I tried putting one position then the other it took me 2 days but it was fun.

Homework Star Wars Episode IV A New Hope

 The Death Star is a weapon that Darth Vadar uses to destroy planets or something big. In the beginning of the movie Darth Vadar was destroying a planet and gets destroyed by the rebells. Darth Vadar is mad because someone just stole his plans.

 Darth Vadar is chasing Princess Leia around the galaxy because she has Darth Vadars plans which shows how it works and how to fix the Death Star because she knows he is going to use it to destroy a planet. Darth Vadar and his Storm Troopers his army are chasing Princess Leia to steall them back from her.

 Important facts about Luke are that he is the one who finds R2-D2 and sees the message the princess sends to Obi-Wan Kenobi about helping her with her fight to destroy Darth Vadar. Later, Luke finds Obi-Wan Kenobi and shows him the message. Obi tells and shows Luke about the force, his powers, about his dad, and the weapon the jedi's use a light saber.Then luke goes into training with Obi. Obi takes him to Alderaan to this bar where Luke meets Chewbacca and Han Solo. Then they later get caught by the storm troopers and leave on a ship called the Millenuim Falcon. Luke is such an important character because he has to becaome a Jedi to save princess Leia which he will later find out is his sister. Also, find out that they have a conection because Darth Vadar is their father.

Homework Book Selection

We went to the library to learn more about Lucas films and what it is all about and after we were done. We were told to choose a book the book I chose is "Star Wars Episode I Anakin's Fate", by Marc Cerasini and illustrated by John Alvin. I chose this book because I looked in it and the drawings are really nice and it explains what happens in the begining episodes so I can understand the last episodes I am watching. I read the book and really liked it and it taught you a good lesson that you must "Trust Your Dreams."

Homework

  This week I will be helping with taking pictures for the yearbook. Today I am going to the soccer game to take pictures of the team. I am excited and hope to take more photos of my school, students, and staff members. The photos I will be taking are going to be photos that really describe our school.

STAR WARS V PLOT SUMMARY

   

 Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back starts of in space and they show stars and then comes in yellow writing explaining the movie and what happens in the movies and the words go back on the screen. Also, has some cool music. After that the empire forces made the rebels go into hiding in a snow planet called Hoth in a cave. They want to catch Luke Skywalker. Luke is with Han Solo returning to their camp and  Luke goes investigate a meteor that had crashed by and Luke is attacked my a big creature a Wampa. Later Han decides to go looking for Luke all by himself in Hoth. Luke's in a cave and has to use his force to get the lightsaber and slice the Wampa's arm.
    He escapes and finds the spirit of Obi-Wan Kenobi and tells Luke to go to the planet Dagabah to be trained under Yoda. Then Han finds Luke and puts him inside the dead body of the Wampa so he could be warm. They get found and go to the Echo Base and they get found by an Imperial probe droid who works with Darth Vader. They go on the Falcon because they are getting chased. They evade pursuit in an asteroid field, where Han and Leia begin to grow closer to each other. Darth Vader was frustrated at having lost the Millennium Falcon.  Darth Vader getsd help from bounty hunters, including Boba Fett, to assist in locating the Falcon. Meanwhile, Luke escapes from Hoth with  R2-D2 and crash lands on Dagobah, where he meets Yoda.
     They thought that they had escaped and go to the Cloud City because Han has a friend there called Lando Calrissian. But he ends up betraying them and gives them to Darth Vader. The ship has Chewbacca, R2-D2, Princess Leia, Han Solo they got caught by Darth Vader and his Storm Troopers. Darth Vader is trying to put Luke in a suspended animation he wants to freeze him. But he wants to make sure it works so he chooses Han to test it. Before Han tests this Princess Leia tells him that she loves him and gives him a kiss and Han says”I know”. Right when Darth Vader is going to give Boba Fett. Then comes Landor and the others escape wanting to go help Han. But Bobba Fett did not let him take Han but let him take the others in the Falcon. Then Luke falls into Darth Vader's trap, gets his hand chopped of, and he tells Luke that he is his father. He refuses Darth Vader’s offers and throws himself down the air shaft until he reaches a tube system that ejects him onto an antenna attached to the underbelly of the floating city. Finally the Falcon escapes and Luke gets his hand replaced by an artificial one. Next the Journey will continue to free and find Han Solo.
      This movie is interesting I have seen the movie but just some parts and never really paid attention to it. Now when I see the movie I can understand it and look at it in a different way. I can see all the goofs and how incredible this movie really is. I am hopping to see all of them to finally see what these historical movies are all about. I am in a Media Arts Class and hope to learn a lot from these movies to help my knowledge in making movies.

George Lucas Biography

       

     

   George Lucas is a famous film director, producer, and screen writer. He is most famous for making all the star wars movies and directed Indiana Jones. He was born May 14,1944 Modesto, California. He attended USC that is where he made his first film as a senior project 1:42:08 in 1966. Later on he made his first real film in 1967 THX 1138. Later on he made his third film American Graffiti which was a low budget film that was nominated for an Oscar. But before all his film making and being famous. He was interested in cars and wanted to be a race car driver. Then Lucas got inspired by a experimental filmmaker Bruce Baillie and decided to go to USC of Cinematic Arts that is where he learned to be who he is right now. He graduated as the best in his class with a bachelor in fine arts in 1967.       
   His career all started with his film THX 1138 when he was awarded a scholarship by Warner Brothers. He later on wrote, produced, and directed his first movie Star Wars in 1977. He and his own film studio and called it Lucas film that is where he made Star Wars. Later on he continued to make films with his friend Steven Spielberg. He made Pixar but made it as a name for his Graphic Group with it he made Star Wars Return of the Jedi in 1983.With Steven he made Indiana Jones. Later in October 3, 1994 he began creating Star Wars three prequels.        
   Lucas is an incredible man who has inspired many people. Not only that he has change our world and technology. In 1975 he founded Industrial Light and Magic, which was responsible for the invention of the special computer assisted camera crane "Dykstraflex“ "that was used for most of the space fight sequences used in the Star wars movies. He came up with more tecnology seen in almost evry movie will all see now. Also, responsible for modern sound system we find in movie theaters. I think that we should all thank him for what he has done. He will keep making more stuff with more new technology. He is worth $3.6 billion.

Frustrated at having lost the Millennuim Falcon. Vader turns to several notorious bounty hunters, including Boba Fett, to assist in locating the Falcon . Meanwhile, Luke escapes from Hoth with  R2-D2 and crash lands on Dagobah, where he meets Yoda.
